It is so interesting and challenging to do things you've never done before! Right now I am writing a tune to arrange for a solo bass piece. I feel that the tune is coming along pretty well and I hope that the arrangement is gonna be as good. When you've never arranged for a specific solo instrument before, (also an instrument you don't play), it's a bit hard to get started. Where do you start?
I started to think about which sounds I can get out of the upright bass. How do you write a slap, or if you want the bassist to knock on the body of the bass, or slides up and down. The piece I'm writing is pretty simple, but with all those sounds I will be able to still make it interesting. We will see how it goes, it might become a keeper for my cd-plans!
